National Hobby Month was created to to encourage people to try new hobbies. January is the perfect month to take up a new hobby and learn something new. New year, new you!
What hobby would you like to try??
What’s Nana Making utilizes affiliate programs for monetization, which means when you click on links to various products that I recommend and make a purchase, this can result in a commission that is credited to this site. Please be sure to read our Privacy Policy
If you are not sure what to try, go to Bluprint. For the first week of January, all their online classes are FREE!! Take as many as you want to help you decide what hobby interests you.
The following are the hobbies that Nana enjoys! I hope I can provide some inspiration for you to try them as well.
CROCHET
Crochet is HOT!! Crocheted garments were included in spring collections all over the runways. So get out your hooks and start crocheting!
Last year, Nana hosted a “Learn to Crochet” series. We learned 30 different stitches while crocheting a gorgeous afghan.
Although the crochet along has been finished, you can still use the posts to learn to crochet at your own pace. If you would like all the posts in one PDF, you may purchase the e-book here.
QUILTING
Last year, Nana discussed How to Choose your Fabric, How to Make your Quilt Backs Spectacular, How to Applique and more!!
Why not join a quilt along? You can find one on our list of popular quilt alongs to join in 2020.
Beginning this year, Nana will be offering some tips on how to quilt. From choosing your supplies to quilting the quilt, these posts will be offered monthly.
SEWING
Sewing for the family is a passion of mine. Many times my daughters ask “Mom can you make this?” I love searching through patterns and fabrics to find just the right ones to make the requested creations. See how in my many Sewing Category posts!
Have nobody to sew for? There are many charities that would appreciate your creations! Last year, Nana participated in the Little Dresses for Africa and the Britches for Boys campaign. You can too!
PAINTING
Nana dabbles with paint. I have painted a few canvas pictures, done a bit of decorative painting in my home and started to paint and restore furniture.
If you don’t feel artistic, you might find you like painting by numbers. I really enjoyed painting my Winnie’s Picks Paris scene this summer.

What a great idea, the perfect time to learn something new.
I joined one mini workshop last year and learnt to needle tat (and bought myself a mini kit to get started) but haven’t looked at it since. I think this month I’d like to try to find time to practice that a little more.
Good for you! I would love to see your finished item.
