How to Crochet a Magic Ring

Magic rings are one of the most useful techniques to learn for crocheting in the round. Once you know how to crochet a magic ring, I am sure you will be using them all the time.

Many patterns ask you to chain two to four stitches, create a loop and then work the first round in that loop. Most times, this loop creates a large hole in the center of your round. But, a magic ring creates a center that is tightly closed.

A magic ring is used to begin crocheting in the round by crocheting your first round over a loop and then pulling the loop tight.

LET’S LEARN HOW TO CROCHET THE MAGIC RING

STEP 1 – Placing the tail of the yarn in the palm of your hand, make a loop from left to right around your fingers. Your working yarn should be behind the tail.

STEP 2 – Hold the Loop where the two yarns cross between your thumb and middle finger.
