The Veronica Cardigan

Nana has spent most of the summer working on a fabulous quilt (her COVID project). But that is for another post. I have also been crocheting. The first of the gifts I am making for Christmas and HOTH is the Veronica Cardigan. SSHHH – don’t tell my daughter!

This project really had it’s challenges but it is finally complete and looking fine….

The pattern

To make the Veronica cardigan, I actually purchased the pattern from TL Yarn Crafts. The only reason I did was because I loved the look of the stitch – I still do. It has beautiful texture and the sweater is comfy and cozy.

BUT, the pattern was not great to work with. Starting with gauge. No matter what I did the sweater was too small. Luckily the instructions do tell you how to adjust the pattern and because Nana is experienced, I adjusted!

The pattern did tell me that the finished sweater should be 60 inches wide and 30 inches long so I was able to add clusters and rows to obtain these measurements.

Another change I made was the pockets. I wanted nice big pockets so once again I was changing the pattern adding clusters and rows.

Love the texture of the stitch

The stitch is gorgeous and consists of a single crochet, chain one, double crochet cluster. The rhythm of the stitch was fun and soothing at the same time.

I made the Veronica cardigan using Paintbox Yarn Simply Chunky in Soft Fudge. I ordered 15 balls and ended up using 14 of them. Paintbox yarns are one of my favorite yarns to work with. They are reasonably priced, soft and easy to crochet. Simply Chunky from Paintbox Yarns is a soft and versatile acrylic available in almost every color imaginable! There are 60 shades to choose from in their extensive palette, from bright primary colors to rich jewel tones and pretty pastels. Perfect for children’s clothes and quick bulky accessories.

The takeaway

Would I make this pattern again?? Probably not. Would I use Simply Chunky again?? Most definitely!!
