It used to be that extra-wide backing fabric was boring. But I have noticed in the past few months that more and more gorgeous designs are being released.

Extra-wide fabric makes backing your quilts fast and simple. Wide quilt backing fabric comes as wide as 108” and allows you to back your quilt with a single piece of fabric, eliminating the need for seams. This makes the look of the back side as good as the front and keeps your quilt nice and flat.

Many quilt fabric stores sell extra wide  fabric that usually comes 108 inches wide which is enough to cover most quilt backs.  Smaller widths are also available which is perfect for crib or lap sized quilts..

The advantages to using extra wide fabric is you do not have to piece your backing and the cost is usually much less.

Although the ability to not have to piece is convenient, the choices of fabric were limited, but today we are being to see beautiful new designs.

In general, the cost of using extra wide fabric is much less.  Although the fabric price is more per yard, you will  require much less yardage.
