TECHNIQUES

FUSSY CUT

Fussy cut refers to a method of choosing the portion of fabric you want to see in the quilt block. To fussy cut you will isolate the exact part of the print or pattern using either a template or your acrylic ruler and cut around it adding your seam allowance.  There is a great tutorial HERE

TIPS

Always, always use high quality quilting cotton.

Backing Fabric is usually about 3” larger all around than the quilt.

When appliqueing curves or circles, use the clock method. Think of the face of the clock.  Starting at Noon, sew to 1:00 o’clock, turn slightly, sew to 2:00 o’clock, turn, sew to 3:00 o’clock etc.  LIFT YOUR FOOT when turning to keep the item flat.

You can change the size of any quilt that is made from similar blocks simply by changing the amount of blocks in the row or the number of rows.

When cutting your fabric with a rotary cutter, before lifting or moving the ruler be sure that the blade cut through all the layers of fabric.  If not, roll the cutter again.
