This week it’s not about What’s Nana Making but What’s Papa Making? After seeing many different variations of a counter stool, I designed this pattern but needed Papa’s help to make it.
Children are curious little creatures and can get underfoot when you’re in the kitchen. This stool lets your little one help by allowing your child to reach the counter while keeping him or her out of trouble. And cooking is a great way to teach your child skills such as counting, science and creativity.
The Cook and Learn Counter Stool is easy-to-make, safe and the adjustable platform grows with your child.
With a material list in hand, hubby and I headed off to the supply store for lumber and screws. Although I recently took a Ladies Power Tool class, he would not let me cut the boards. My job would be to paint them all.
The boards are easier to paint if you do so, BEFORE assembly. Do not varnish, however, because you can touch up the paint and finish with varnish once assembled.
I used DecoArt chalk paint in Everlasting White and Keepsake. I also added the name of our grandson to personalize the stool. To do this I simply printed out the graphic, transferred to the wood using carbon paper and painted …very carefully.
Next was the assembly, and Papa did a fantastic job. I think the kids love it!! What do you think?
They turned out so awesome that we will be making 3 more for the remaining younger ones this summer. I will add a few more “production” photos in an update.
UPDATE – We made two more stools – check them out HERE!!
Everyone loves the counter stool so much, that we developed a pattern which we are selling in my Etsy store for a very small fee of US$7.50. The pattern is instantly downloaded and comes with easy to read illustrated instructions. The instructions include a material list, cutting and assembly instructions.
The finished size of the stool measures approximately 18” x18” x 30 inches high. And you can customize it with your choice of paint color, add the child’s name or a cute little saying. The possibilities are endless.
Make yours today! And if you have any questions, please send me a message. I am here to help you enjoy your project.
I love this! Pinning and hoping to get my husband to build some for my grandkids!
Thank you Helen,
We are making three more. The kids are fighting over who gets to stand on it!
