AMIGURUMI GIFTS FOR THE GRANDKIDS

It took Nana awhile to write this post because I had to wait for all the grandkids to finish their birthday celebrations. (I didn’t want to give away the surprise!)

For the last few months, Nana has been very busy creating Amigurumi gifts for my treasured grandbabies. Here is what I made. PS. Everything was easier than expected!

If you don’t know what Amigurumi is or the word just scares you, check out this post. It is really quite easy to do and a whole lot of FUN!!

FIRST CAME MAX!!

Max is a HUGE Mandalorian fan! On the suggestion of Mama, Nana made him Baby Yoda!

To make the Yoda, I adapted this pattern from Etsy. It was actually really easy, I just changed the position of the rabbit ears! The yarn used was Red Heart With Love Chunky Yarn, in Lettuce for Yoda, Red Heart Hygge Yarn in Latte for his coat and Bernat Blanket in Sand for the collar. The eyes were purchased from the Eye Lady (I get all my eyes from her great selection)

NEXT WAS SAWYER

One day, I brought a small stuffed owl as a gift to his sister. He cried because he wanted it badly. “He loves owls” said Mama, so of course, I went on the search for a perfect owl pattern and found this FREE one from Stuff Steph Makes. How cute is this pillow. The stitch to make the feathers took a while to figure out but once I got it right it was easy-peasy! I highly recommend watching the tutorial. The trick is to know which loop to place your stitch in.

Nana made this owl, using Loops and Threads Impeccable yarn from Michaels and scraps for the eyes. Although the pattern calls for a bulky weight yarn, this Size 4 yarn worked out fine! NOTE: The feathers are made using both the grey and black yarn together. The beak is simply a toggle button.

MARLEY’S LLAMA

When I saw this pattern, I knew it would be perfect for her! Although not difficult, this was the most time consuming. Making all those little loops of fur. But it turned out fabulous. And best of all, the pattern is FREE. I used Paintbox DK cotton yarn which is a little stiff and heavy and if I did it over, I think I would choose something a little softer like Lion Brand Feels Like Butta. Someone also suggested to me to try loopy yarn. The eyes were also purchased from the Eye Lady!

FRANKIE

Frankie LOVES unicorns. In fact she was even a unicorn for Halloween! And when she plays princess, her unicorns come with her. This cute little guy has become a favorite of hers. Crocheted with this pattern I found on Etsy and using Lion Brand 24/7 cotton yarn for the body, scraps for the feet and horn and Premier Yarns Everyday Plaid in Aqua Rose for the mane and tail. It looks like this yarn might be discontinued but you can use any variegated “rainbow” colored size 4 yarn. And the Eye Lady provided the eyes of course!

I really enjoyed making these amigurumi gifts. It gives my pleasure to see the joy in their eyes when they open the wrapping to find what’s inside.

Tell me what you make for your grandkids! I need some inspiration for this year!
